Flying can pose a host of challenges for men’s hair and skin. But worry not, we have the tips to keep you looking tip-top even if you have spent 12 hours jammed in an economy cabin. Here are our expert’s top tips…
1. PRE-FLIGHT HAIR TIPS FOR YOUR HAIR
According to Vidal Sassoon-trained hairdresser Ben Copeland, it’s important to remember that flying can dehydrate your hair, so make sure to wash and condition with good shampoo and conditioner such as Twice As Smart Taming Shampoo & Conditioner. Try and do this as close as possible to flying, and make sure you don’t overload on products. Use a re-workable pomade or wax and remember – you can always add more if needed.
Secondly, a good haircut will create structured shape, which will mean that you won't have to spend ages trying to style your hair. For guys with long hair, tie it up out of your face and try not to touch it too much.
Take a travel-sized dry shampoo with you for the plane – it helps by creating body and freshening the hair.
2. TAKE ONLY WHAT YOU NEED
Word of advice: it doesn’t matter if you’re in economy or business, you don’t want to be rooting through an expedition-size rucksack just to find some eye cream. If you’re on a long-haul flight, try and keep to your destination’s time rather than back home. You’ll arrive feeling more refreshed, sleep better, and stave off the jet lag.
6. LOAD UP BEFORE
Some advice for those prone to dry skin: load up on a hydrating mask the night before your trip to prevent that prune-like feeling.
7. PACK A SPARE SET OF CLOTHES & PYJAMAS
One of the easiest ways to feel instantly refreshed is to change into some flight clothes for the journey. For longer hauls, jump into some sleepwear and remember to always pack a new set of underwear for when you get to your destination.
8. BODY WIPES
There are many different types of body wipes on the market these days but the ones you should look out for are the large “sports” wipes. These can be used to quickly give yourself a pseudo-shower. A godsend.
Second to last, it’s important to accept that flights aren’t just for catching up on all those trashy movies you’ve missed this year. You need to sleep. If you’re in economy, buy a plush eye mask and pillow and some noise-cancelling headphones beforehand to really get that first-class feeling.
